WHAT IS AN ASP LEVEL 2 ELECTRICAL WORK?

An ASP Level 2 electrician work, is a combination of certification and knowledge that a contractor will need in order to make the connection between your home or building to the network owned by the energy providers.

The energy providers provide the network to which an ASP level 2 electrician would work and connect to. People refer to the network as power poles or power lines.

An authorised ASP level 2 electrician has the task to link both consumers and the network in a way that is deemed compliant.

WHAT IS AN ASP LEVEL 2 ELECTRICIAN?

An authorised ASP Level 2 Electrician is an electrical contractor that is capable of connecting level 2 electrical work.

An ASP Level 2 electrician is authorised to physically make the connection between consumers and to the network, being from your property to the pole, where a normal electrician is not authorised to undertake these types of works.

WHAT IS AN ASP?

Accredited Service Providers also known as ASP’s. Prior to the Electricity Supply Act 1995, network operators were the only ones who had permission to provide this service. This act gave electricity users the option to choose whether they wanted the energy provider’s service or to call an ASP for the Service.

WHAT IS AN ELECTRICAL DEFECT NOTICE?

A defect notice means that a part of the electricity supply to the property has become defective and requires your attention to have it rectified by an electrical contractor. All connections to electricity networks must comply with safety standards, including the NSW Electricity Supply Act 1995, the Electricity (Consumer Safety) Regulation 2006. A new or existing connections and can also be issued with a defect notification to customers and/or electrical contractors for electrical installations that do not comply with safety standards. You are expected to have the problem attended and rectified by a qualified electrical technician within 21 Days.
Any defects that are not repaired within 21 days after notification may result in electricity supply to the property being disconnected until repairs are completed to safety and service standards. If your original contractor is unable to carry out the repairs, it is the customer’s responsibility to engage another qualified electrical contractor for the work.

WHEN DO I NEED A LEVEL 2 ASP?

All works relating to electrical connections to Ausgrid’s network must be carried out by a licensed electrical contractor or ASP. You will be required to use an ASP or level 2 Electrician when work at your property has become defective, damaged or deemed unsafe or if you require more power to accommodate for 3 phase machinery.
